Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Black"Karl Lagerfeld":Does This Prove It Had More Than One Of These Black Versions?
KL owned - as we know - an AP Royal Oak 5402 which had been treated in black PVD by an aftermarket process in Italy (i.e. it had not been delivered as is by Audemars Piguet ).
A few years ago when I was lucky enough to get my hands on my black Royal Oak series A: - it was common knowledge that KL owned a Royal Oak AP as he stated in at least one interview . - but it was NOT known to the general public that the AP Royal Oak he owned was totally black. I guess I was the first person to mention it here on Watchprosite www.watchprosite.com.
- The seller told me that the black AP Royal Oak that I was going to buy was from the entourage of KL.
- The seller told me that KL might have owned several of these black Royal Oak APs. Now here's the part of the story for watch lovers and - I guess - some other "news" about KL and the black Royal Oak 5402: I found out from the photos below that in both photos, one sees it with a/the black Royal Oak, but whereas in the first (old) photo, we see that the watch has the "AP at 6" configuration, it has the "AP at 12" configuration in the black photo and white. I'm not sure if those details are visible in this post, but I have the High-Res photos where it is clearly visible.
What it means: it could prove that he owned several black AP Royal Oak ref. 5402, probably older models (like the black A-series I own with "AP at six" configuration) and probably newer models ("AP at 6" configuration changed to "AP at 12" towards the end of C-series production). The "ifs", the "buts" and the "when" are the fascination of collecting antique watches.
